Asked by Iris Jun 27, 2018 at 10:59 PM about the 1998 Honda Civic LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Honda Civic LX 1998 model is steaming and
losing water from the Overflow it has a brand new
thermostat brand new water pump and timing belt
put on today and now it's not over heating anymore
by the temperature hand it stay and more near cold
but after driving it for about an hour today and then
stopped the water run out again so it's losing water
we have checked oil and all it looks good, so if it's
not the thermostat or the water pump what could it
be the mechanic today was telling me that he think
it had a blown head maybe but wouldn't it be still
overheating or water in the oil or smoking or
something? There is some little Bubbles and the
radiator when it's running but I talked to a guy at
AutoZone he said that it might be airlock maybe
where it's got air in the motor or something I don't
know can anyone help me with this or what it may
be? Thanks for any advice

Hondas of that generation always read on the cold side (1/4 - 1/3) when at operating temperature and all is well. Bubbles in the coolant definitely can mean blown head gasket which will over pressurize the cooling system and cause it to overflow. The coolant can be tested for combustion byproducts to confirm that as well as doing a leakdown test
