The car drops to idle while driving

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 98 accord lx with 87k on it. After driving the car for about 18 miles
and then going into store, when I get back in and drive for 5 miles the engine
seems to drop into neutral revving and not drive properly. The engine drops
to about 1k on the tach then up to 2k then back to 1k. It will not get higher
than this. Then about 3 miles driving it resets itself and is fine. I have taken
video of this happening. The transmission has already been replaced. We
are running out of options.

Are you feeling it going in and out of overdrive?

no, feels like it is staying in the same gear, it is an odd plodding along that it does, it does seem to try and go in 1st gear then same revving. but doesn't feel like in any gear fully.

No actually into idle, but the tach reads the same RPM's as when it is in idle, the car just goes much slower.
