First try the easy fix - spray some graphite lock lube in the locking mechanism. If that doesn't work, it's either a disconnected locking rod from the handles or a dead actuator. If the door doesn't open from the inside or outside handles, it's the locking rods. You'll have to open the door panel to get to those. If the door doesn't lock from the key fob or door's locking button, then you may have a dead actuator. You'll again have to open the door panel to get to it. You can google for the steps to replace either of these items.

If it is not locked, then the door panel has to come off to gain access to the mechanism inside the door to replace or reconnect those parts that came loose and/or the door latch itself. If door panel cannot be taken off while door is closed a slimjim/jimmy set will need to be used to open the door. You can do some testing by locking and unlocking while trying to open it from inside and outside to see you feel anything or nothing at all or if it opens. If you have electric door locks make sure the switch is working and its not just locked.
