Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car will not start when the gas tank is less than 1/4 full.  After trying to start it for about 3 to 4 min, it will supter and then catch.  After filling the tank up it will start up just fine everytime.  Any Ideas?

You might want to look at your fuel filter and pump. That would be my guess.

I agree with Chris. It seems that your fuel pump encounters additional resistance as the tank empties to 1/4 tank. This would indicate restriction along the line at some point if it always recurs at 1/4 tank. Change the fuel filter and see what happens. I'd bet that's the problem.

No, but I think I am going to try the fuel filter on Monday. I will keep you posted.

do the fuel filter but if you are going to take it to a shop get a fuel system clean as well it will get rid of all the shit you dont want in your fuel system as well and the combustion chamber, it actually will improve fuel mileage (slightly)

That sounds like a good idea. I was thinking about doing that since I just bought the car about 3 months ago.

also you could be out of gas i had a problem in my truck that the gauge was broke so it would read correct until like 1/4 tank and it would stay there until the car was empty. i know this sound stupid but i happened to me so i would check out your gauge as well if you are going to take it in anyway.
