why when i turn on the lights on my car the rear does not turn on

it only shows at night that the front lights are on but not the back. if i press the brake the brake light goes on, other than that even if i turn the lights at night the back it shows like is not turn on.  please help!

I'd check the cables in the trunk to the lights, mabey ones loose, or unplugged.
