Accord 2001 transmission issue

check with your honda dealer cause i think those did have trans issues

Check the battery, the cca, i know it sounds funny. but if there is not a sufficient current supply to everywhere, then it will run like crap, injection jumpy, cold, slow, things like that. and the leads to the trans, make sure there getting power Maybe

There was a transmission recall on 2001 Accords. Did you get notification from Honda? I had mind replaced at no charge.

well 1s off it's not a v4...it's a I4 and yes 976-03 accords had crap auto trans.... Now for your question.. if your "d4" light is not flashing everything is prob. fine..honda auto trans to start with. but ppl tend NOT to change the trans fluid like they should. Big NO NO...you trans fluid is just as important as engine oil. Sounds like you need to do a drain and fill....NOT A POWER FLUSH...drain and fill only

Your 2001 Honda Accord I'm having problems with mine to swell it seems that second gear does not want to engage anybody have an answer that but to your problem with it's slipping or thinking too hard you will look for the solenoid that's under your battery right below it I had a problem ever since I changed you're trying to wrestle anointing there any other problems with those with hard shifting

Honda's of that generation use a very unique type of automatic transmission known as a Hondamatic. On principle it's a manual transmission that still has a torque converter and it synchronises and changes gears automatically. It's very sensitive to ATF level and quality. The V6 puts a lot of strain on the transmission as each gear has it's own small clutch pack that has to handle all of the torque from that V6. With regards to feeling a jerk when decelerating the Hondamatic will keep the torque converter locked and provide compression braking if it detects rapid deceleration to help you slow down quicker and maintain better control of the vehicle. They do shift rather abruptly compared to a traditional automatic but with the problems you describe you need to check your ATF fluid quantity and quality. Only ever use Honda's own fluid, any other traditional ATF will destroy the transmission.

I have driven both the 01, 02 accords with over a hundred and fifty thousand miles. My 01 has 188,000 miles with a second gear problem. I change the transmission fluid in it and I learn how to drive the car and it gets me to point A to b and I'm fine with it. By no means will I ever spend any more money on that car at the value for a damn transmission I will tell you guys these are the best Hondas engines around it is imperative that you replace timing belt at 100,000 miles and water pump get the vtec solenoid replaced because it will go out and by starter on Amazon for $35 just get all that stuff done buy all of your products that I have just labeled I'm Amazon for under $300 I'm very fortunate I have a mechanic that is doing it for $200. I am having the same problem with my 01 Honda Accord. Mine is a v6 and I also read a lot on this transmission problem and thought for a long time I had bad shift solenoids so I had my solenoids taken out, I had filters cleaned on the one, replaced the O- rings. Had a half ass mechanic work on it and made the problem worse. But I agree and I have also seen there was a recall on these transmissions and I believe it will be free to get this problem fixed. People don't also forget about your airbag replacement it could possibly kill the driver. My transmission will lock up going down the road, jerk when shifting, I learned to drive it in override by shifting manually. The car had a hell of a improvement after having the filters cleaned and the transmission fluid replaced. if you find that your transmission fluid is leaking I'm pretty sure the problem is a plug coming undone. Make sure you have your bolt all the way down on the top part of the transmission where you add your fluid behind the dipstick. I think it's a problem with fluid pressure not being transported correctly. Also has something to do with the heat. during the winter time I was able to drive my car without it overheating on the transmission. I would have to start my car turn the heater up on blast and let my car warm up for about 20 minutes and when I started to take off driving I could not go no faster than 20 miles per hour. Once my car kicked into overdrive and the D4 light started flashing I've shifted down to first gear and I was able to take off and shift my way up to D4 and drive my car 60 to 70 miles per hour. The RPMs will run a little high but so far I haven't had a problem with that. I'm still getting pretty damn good gas mileage. But I'm going to save my money and my time and get hold of Honda to have this problem fixed because I've wasted a lot of money and trying to figure out what's wrong with this car. Mine has 255,782 miles. I love this car, she is a badass and has got me through this far. I'm going to take care of this beauty and keeper to 500,000 miles. I found one of my shift solenoids has bracket broken off of it but is still driving though I am having lots of issues.

Here is recall letter I found online. I've owned my car over a year and have not received my own recall notice. Honda should be able to track down all there Accords and the owners to send them a letter about this recall. Because of right now nobody knows why their car is driving so messed up.

PunkyB! Your information seems very accurate compared to what I research and found online MYSELF. My best shot and for everyone is to contact Honda directly to fix this problem. No mechanic can explain to you what is wrong because it's not a typical tranny issue. If Honda turns down helping you then they may have a lawsuit on their hands. I have almost been hit in the rear end because of the locking up tranny. If you don't have a good feel for your car than I wouldn't drive it on busy roads. I didn't know I had a trans fluid leak and drove my car probably 500 or more miles with it being bone dry on transmission fluid. When I had fluid added to my transmission, It turned almost the color black, reminder trans fluid should be red. Once we found the plug wasn't on right located near the dipstick, we reattached it stopping the leak. Drained the black trans fluid, clean solenoid filters, tested the solenoids A,B,C and maybe a D. My good mechanic tested then with 12V battery and found one of the plug looking solenoids that is supposed to open and close was not clicking accurately compared to the others. But I was able to identify which solenoid it was. I believe it's the B solenoid. I believe my car would not shift from 2nd to 3rd. Jerking, locking up, slipping, there was a few days I couldn't drive at all. Summer time when it was really hot outside made my transmission nearly die on me.
