can i use diferent alternators on my xc90 volvo

I have to replace the alternator on my Volvo xc90. the dealer is quoting a price of $751.93. o'reillys has alternators for the xc90 for $209. it says it meets/exceeds OE standards. can I succsfully use a non Volvo alternator.  of course the dealer says only Volvo parts

Yes you can use the cheaper one but the Volvo part will be of a better Quality

make sure the amp output is the same or more !

Get the lifetime warranty if offered, and if it stops working take it back for another one.
