my engine is making a ticking sound. is this the lifters that need adjustment or could it be something else?

Could be the lifters, could also be something as simple as the reed valves in the fuel injectors chattering. Did it happen before? I find most of the newer engines have a tick to them even from brand new, since they are quieter than older engines you tend to notice the fuel injectors and other noises that you wouldn't have heard on an older car.
