Is the fuel pump the problem? HOw to diagnose?

Asked by JBD95 Feb 08, 2014 at 03:44 PM about the 2001 Ford E-Series E-150 XLT Passenger Van

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2001 ford econoline cranks but does not start. The fuel pump noise is one clunk instead of a buzz when key turned to start. Similar no start happened two times before.  Service engine light not on. Code not detected after first time.
thanks,
Jeff

The fuel pump won't trip a code in your year model. The fuel pump will time out after 3 seconds without the engine running. You could try inducing a little fuel into the intake and try cranking the engine to see if it runs. The best way to diag the fuel pump is to hook up a gauge.
