shifter will not come out of park when pushing brake down to put it into gear

found plastic pieces on the floor.  had to disconnect cable to get it into drive to get it home.

I'm gonna say the plastic parts you found are what's left of your shift lock release mechanism. Its the part that let's you release the shifter after you press the brake pedal.

Shift module went bad. There's a release button under the dash.
