idle RPM's vary

Asked by HNB1967 Sep 17, 2015 at 06:22 PM about the 2002 Ford Ranger 4dr XLT Appearance Super Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

At idle the RPM's vary from around 700 to 1500/2000...and the engine will die occasionally. I recently replaced coil, plugs, fuel filter and a couple of vacuum lines. Before I replaced those it would idle rough and the check engine light was on...codes were for lean condition on both banks (V6 engine).

Clean throttle body and clean or replace (IAC) Idle Air Control valve or Mass Air Flow Sensor depending on which one your vehicle has.
