Loud knocking noise from right side of engine

Asked by Lilly808 Nov 03, 2015 at 01:37 PM about the 2004 Honda Accord LX V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2004 Honda Accord V6, loud knocking noise from right side of engine. Local shop says the weld on the torque converter broke, also damaging the starter. $1500 to change it out. Another shop (which didn't look at the car, just called and question their price) said it's a factory defect go to Honda and see if they'll fix it for free.
Car still drives fine, starts fine, runs fine just LOUD. You wouldn't be able to tell anything wrong if window rolled up and music on.
Sounds like this (but doesn't have trouble starting)

I would go with the free option first! The dealer will tell you if that is the case and hopefully cost you nothing. If the torque converter issue is the cause then that is a serious problem that needs fixing right away.
