sport mode rpm to high?

I just bought a new car for the first time in
my life and I went for a 2016 honda civic.
Just the base trim as I only drive it for work.
I wanted to try out the sport mode on the car
to see what the difference was. And noticed
that the rpm would go really high and stay
there for a uncomfortable amount of time.  
With is always. I know other trims have
paddle shifters to fix that issue but my car
does not . Is this normal or is there a way to
also make the car shift so that the rpm is
not too high on sport mode.

Yes, this is normal, the shift sequence is optimized for racing.

But seriously why would you need to have the civic in sport mode when driving to work,it wastes gas and doesn't make the drive any faster,but the track tells a different story,having it in high rpm in one gear will do for better acceleration around corners,in alternative to down-shifting
