Good day I had that same exact problem. I took the shield off from over the fuel pumps. I saw a slight presence of fuel on the fuel line connections on my fuel pumps. I ended up replacing my fuel pumps with two new Bosch fuel pumps. I've never had the problem again. My 500Sl now runs like a charm. (Do not use any aftermarket fuel pumps) Bosch only. Good luck!
