hello i drive a 1974 beetle i see now that i have redone my carburetor and put in new oil my manifold gets hot after driving about 7km is this normal and if not what can be the problem.

Yes the single carb units do get hot, if you look closely at it you will see a smaller tube that attaches to both heads, that provides heat to the carb to prevent icing as the manifold is long the fuel air mix can actually start to get cold enough that the moisture in the mix will start to freeze. However it can also cause vapor locking in hotter climates. Back in my dune buggy days we always put the dual carb setups on and that of course does away with the vapor locking bit, but did cause some problems when we tried running in the snow until we added carb heaters to them, I don't even know if they make those anymore.
