Might you be able to tell me the cause of the following problem ?
While driving 30 to 40 mph my speedo will suddenly peg at the top speed peg
then return to normal a reading. It will repeat this action.
It is accompanied by a noise from the speedo.
I recently installed a new drive cable.
Thank you for any info you can provide.

Cable could be going bad and may stop working the speedometer.

..or its not connected well at either end

Sounds like the cable is binding up in the sheath. Try replacing the cable, they're not expensive or hard to replace.

I know someone that has a '72 or '73 Karmann Ghia. Some reason it won't go into reverse anymore and I don't think it grinds. Could this be a linkage issue and is there a particular linkage part that can cause this to happen? Would you also be able to tell me how to fix this if it's a linkage issue? 1 Answer
