transmission has no reverse

My 91 Vandura recently had the transmission serviced, and now reverse has gone out.  
The van sat for a long time before I purchased it, so when I first bought it, it needed some
sensors replaced, etc.  Now the reverse is out, not sure if it is a solenoid, or a sensor, or if
the tranny has to be replaced?
