I am experiencing a loss of oil in my 2016 Dodge
Dart (2.0L). I am not having any success with the
dealer and I feel like they messed up on my original
oil change. I had a trip from VA to Georgia and back
when I first bought the car. I went 7,000 miles
before the first oil change (which unfortunately the
delay in the oil change couldn't be avoided).
However, my oil light never came on. After the
dealer changed my oil, my oil came on about 1,750
miles later. Has anyone dealt with this or have any
idea what could be causing the issue? The dealer
did have to top off the oil because it was low and
they had to add oil two additional times before I
even got my next oil change.
0W-20 oil is specified for your car so don't be surprised at oil consumption. Since your car is under warranty I would make a claim and ask for a new engine.
So does that mean synthetic oil will be consumed faster than if I had a car that didn't require synthetic oil? And do you know how I would make a claim for a new engine? I do not want to continue working with the same dealership.
If you don't like the dealer you will have to find another one farther away - it is a pain but I had to do the same thing when my new Subaru used oil. Super thin oil like your car uses is a problem. You need to go to a dealer you trust and tell them your car is using too much oil. They may do an oil consumption test but if you car keeps using too much oil they should replace the engine. Keep on them or they may blow you off. You may also want to contact Dodge directly and tell them what is going on. Make a log book and record EVERY drop of oil you have to add.
Ok thank you so much for your help!!!
Did you check the oil during the 7,000 miles? My guess is no.
No so the car may have consumed oil during that time but no where near as much as after the oil change. It would make more sense if the oil light came on during that 7,000 but it didn't.
I'm having oil loss also in my 2016 Dodge Dart.
I have a 2013 dart and it does the same thing. Consume oil. It's just another fuckary that dodge put out. The dealer won't help you. Everyone that I have talk to said their dart burns oil too. Mi as actually cut off on me doing 75 on hwy 59. Tried to kill me. These cars are not safe.
Update: My car does consume oil but not at a ridiculous rate. The problem was actually the dealership. Apparently, they do not know how to do a correct oil change. I found a dealership closer to my place and will only deal with one guy there. I like the Dart but I have had to replace a few things already which is unfortunate. Luckily, it has all been covered under warranty.
I have. 2107. I have to add oil between changes. It shuts off when low. No warning. No lights. Just shuts off.
I have a 2015 Dodge Dart SXT 2.4Lwith the same problem. You should ask for a engine oil consumption test from the dealer. My car was down 3.5 quarts of oil in less than 1,200miles. After driving the car 1000 miles to do the oil consumption test the car was down 3 quarts on oil. Chrysler then approve a new engine with all the latest updates for my car & supplied me a loaner car for 2 weeks while they were ordering & installing a new motor. Turns out this is a common problem with 2015 & 2016 dodge darts 2.0 & 2.4 L engines. Don't let Chrysler off the hook. Don M
I have a 2015 dart get I just changed oil in it drive about 1000 miles now it shuts off on me all the time out of no where usually when I first get in the car than dies out five time or loses power is that same thing you also dealing with
No and I actually previously added an update. The dealership I was taking my car to messed up on the oil change. Somehow they did not put enough oil in when they changed it. There has not been an issue with the oil since I started going to a dealership who knew what they were doing.
My 2015 dart GT uses oil and the light never comes on. Sometimes it stalls around corners until I add oil. It's been doing this since 20,000 miles.
Switch to a 0w-30 full synthetic. 0w-20 is simply too thin when hot so it flows right past the rings.
I had a 2011 2.7 Tacoma that specified OW-20 Synthetic oil. I too was worried about consumption issues. I drove it 205,000 miles, changed oil every 5000, like factory said. The dipstick never went below full before an oil change. That was between 5000 miles, and 205,000 miles. I don’t think the oil in your Dodge is yo blame. I believe it is an engine/ design issue.
For all people shopping for a car do not, again do not buy a dodge specially a dart.
Keep your opinions to yourself about Dodge vehicles. I love Dodge vehicles and my family and I have had several over the years and they were great vehicles. The dart has had some issues but the issue I had with my dart was due to a service location at one dealership not knowing how to do an oil change. Since I started going to a different dealership, I have not had any problems with my dart. This post was trying to figure out what was going on with my oil. It was not asking your opinion about Dodge.
Bought 2015 Dodge Dart Rally Jan 2019. 53k miles. Had three oil changes (synthetic oil) from Jan to May 2019. Now have 58 k. Oil cumsumtion. Took it to Dodge dealership in Pa. They replaced the ENGINE at no cost to me. I have a 100 K miles warranty. They said the pistons were the cause of the oil loss. Joyce
Same problem with my 2015 Dodge Dart oil consumption and motor been replaced twice and the person speaking opinion about dodge has every right to speak their mind, it’s discouraging spending money buying a new car and having problems right out of the gate and having been told by Chrysler that 1 quarter of oil every thousand miles is normal and no we will not replace your engine, the problem with that is that when we purchased the dodge we weren’t told to have a case of oil in the trunk you will need it after a thousand miles, would you buy the great dodge being told that from the dealership I highly doubt it, they would be stuck with a bunch of poorly designed 4 cylinder engines that they have no fix for.
Same problem. Dealer says nothing it's wrong and that is within standards. How do I file a warranty complaint to replace engineer?
Mine has been doing that since I bought it new in 2014. I was driving one day and they car just shut off there was no oil in it! I change my oil every 3000 miles. They did a “study” at the dealership and they said it was fine and dismissed me. So I just kept an eye on it and filled as Necessary. Then 3 weeks ago my car shut off again and this time I was about 2000 miles after my oil change. I’m waiting for this recall to come out. There is no evidence of the oil in my driveway at home or at work so where is this going? Check for a safety recall on the transmission shift cable. Just got a letter in the mail this week. My car was trying not to go in park every once in a while so there it is!
These cars burn like crazy. We have a 2016 Dart GT that takes 2 liters of oil in less than 400km each time. Our usual dealer twice tried to play it off that a ring was leaking by the filter, took it to another dealer and it took 2 liters to fill it and they found no leak. We contacted FCA and started a consumption test. If you have one of these cars under warranty and burning, contact FCA and get a claim started. The dealers will try to screw you around.
