2016 F-150 Lariat Tailgate Ajar Warning not displayed

Asked by Paleolab Jan 20, 2017 at 03:41 PM about the 2016 Ford F-150 Lariat SuperCrew 4WD

Question type: General

My manual shows that the F-150 should have a Tailgate Ajar message displayed when the tailgate is not completely closed. My 2016 Lariat does not display this message. Is this sensor not available on all trim levels? I would think that the Lariat trim level would basic this basic feature.

I think I found my answer. Apparently Ford was having issues with the Tailgate Ajar message coming on when the tailgate was actually closed, so instead of fixing the problem Ford decided to disable the Tailgate Ajar warning. Wow! Talk about cheap! The F-150 is making record profits and Ford cheaps out like this. Be warned - if you have a F-150 with a functioning Tailgate Ajar message and take your truck to Ford for service, they will reprogram your truck and the message will no longer function - and they won't even tell you.
