Replacement of inner tie rod ends on 2016 RAM Promaster cargo vanI

Asked by Coloradoan6 Jan 06, 2019 at 06:14 AM about the 2016 RAM ProMaster 1500 136 Low Roof Cargo Van

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am told the inner tie rod ends cannot be replaced
individually on my van. I am told they come as part of the
rack and pinion steering assembly now. Is this true?

yes and no.... Mopar doesn't sell one but you can get one for a Fiat Ducato OEM part # 1359226080 who actually makes them. when you search for parts look up: FIAT Ducato III Van (250) 07.2006 180 multijet 3.0 130kw/177 unfortunately over there they are all diesel but the promaster came with a 3.0 which is my van and the parts will fit the gas model. I've already bought parts from the UK for my van. The shipping takes time, but if your patient you will get the parts you need and cheaper, even with shipping overseas. I'm not gunna tell you which site to go on, cause I don't want you to think I'm a scam, but I always trust a doctor.... happy hunting.

I replaced them myself - bought them on a internet platform for 150$ a pair. MOOG parts, I am super happy, they work very well!

I didn't try import, cause I think you need to take care about some requirements when doing that...

Jakob1005 - I bought TRW inner tie-rods on Ebay. They were in TRW boxes with all the tags were removed but I think they came from England as part of a remaining label said EAC, which is an English parts company and in the TRW instructions the English section said GB - Great Britain. They have flats on the end for a tool to turn them with. I brought the truck to my general and wheel alignment mechanic who said there's no flats on the OEM tie rod ends and that they also look locked into the rack in some way so he doesn't know how to get them off. I see tools to grab a round end online - how did you get yours off and which tool(s)? - Thanks

I was recently asked how to replace the inner: it is no different than on any other vehicle actually. The installed inner come with a round head (that's the part which goes into the rack), the ones from Ebay have flats for "easier" installation. Obviously the manufacturer MOOG/TRW made improvements to the part after the actual vehicle launch. I de-install and install the inner with simple pliers and without any special tool - they are "just" screwed in and it is relatively easy to do. I also frequently replace the tie rod boot, but you can reuse them as well.
