Question type: Maintenance & Repair

DVD system in my car suddenly stopped working.  There
is currently a dvd in but when I hit eject button nothing
happens. When I hit the home screen and select video
nothing happens as well.  It’s like the whole system no
longer registers.  My 9 and 7 year old have no idea how to
entertain themselves without it and it’s vacation time :/

Has to be replaced at a cost of $1000 which means it hasn’t been replaced. So infuriating.

Update...so my battery went dead this week...got a new one and voila my dvd started working again. I guess the dvd was the first to shut down so battery could retain some juice. VERY reputable 100 year old car dealership in my area is the one that said it needed to be replaced for $1000.......unbelievable. Hopefully y’all might have the same luck and just need a new battery.

Mine was doing the same thing. I pulled the fuses for infotainment system and radio from the passenger side panel and put back in. Neither were blown, but pretty sure I heard the cd/dvd player make some noises when I put the fuse for radio back in. Just started her back up and movies on dvd and usb are both working again...

Trying pulling the 20a fuse from the passenger side fuse box. It should reset it and work fine afterwards.

Pulled out and reinserted the radio 20 amp fuse from passenger side fuse box. DVD works perfect again!!! Took less than 30 seconds and was free! I feel so accomplished and my grandson is thrilled! 2016 Chevy Tahoe

Yep, the answer to this problem is the dying battery. Mine was going out and I had it replaced, but the shop used the memory saver to ensure my settings would not be deleted. When the battery was changed, the DVD player had the same problem because all of the settings were saved. When I pulled out the 20 amp radio fuse (#29 on the passenger side panel), the player started working again. You could also just disconnect the negative terminal on the battery too.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Same exact issue on my 2016 Yukon Denali. Pulled the fuse and the DVD is now working! You all saved me hundred of dollars at the dealer!

The panel with fuses is in the dash on the passenger side. When you fully open up the passenger door it will be facing you. You will need to delicately use a phillips head screw driver or something similar to pry open. There are A LOT of fuses in the panel - you will need to reference the manual to see which one is the 20 amp fuse to pull and reinsert.

My 2016 yukon xl is a POS. I have warranty and Mercury mechanical breakdown. It’s been to the dealer for warranty three times in the last 11 months. Here’s the list of stuff: -condenser -radiator -driver mirror defroster -rear window defroster electrical connection -second row screen -exhaust leak on driver side -passenger side vanity -second row exit cable GMC has been denying my bumper to bumper warranty and currently it’s been sitting at the dealer for three weeks. I’ve opened up a case with GMC and no one has even called me back. Every time I call I get a call center in the Philippines. I think I’m over it. I’m about to sell it and lose out just to get a Sequioa but at least I’ll have no issues.

Going to try this! My DVD player is having the same issue, also the USB in the middle console isn’t working (not sure if this is related or not but saw someone else mention this as well). Will update you when I check it out this week, 2016 Tahoe.

My vehicle is saying "disk read error" every time I try a cd or DVD. Could this be fixed by pulling the fuse as well? We tried a disk cleaner at still nothing. Any ideas? Thanks!

My 05 Yukon Denali doesn't have anfuse box on the passenger side. There's one on the driver's side but no fuse for the radio or dvd or entertainment system or anything like that. Where's the fuse I need to pull ????

Tried pulling & reinserting the fuse while truck was off and it did NOT work. Cranked Yukon, pulled fuse & reinserted and DVD player began working. Thanks to all for the advice!

Ran into this issue this week. The dvd would not turn on. I also noticed that the suburban was getting hard to crank. After reading this I though the battery might be my issue. Trip to the shop revealed the issue was the alternator. $700 later I’m back running with the dvd working and kids happy.
