Towing al all wheel drive

Asked by promarkpert Jan 30, 2019 at 01:26 PM about the 2016 Ford Escape SE AWD

Question type: General

I specifically bought my 2016 escape to tow behind an RV, I was told that all
wheel drive is fine to tow with a tow bar.... Now I'm told it will burn my
transmission if I don't tow on a trailer; with that being said, what recourse or
options would I have in properly towing my Escape? I specifically bought this
particular vehicle because I was told it was towable on two wheels behind an
RV

I do not see the Escape listed on this site as being towable: http://www.motorhome.com/download-dinghy-guides/ There is a link to download the guide for 2016 vehicles. Normally, the transfer case can be placed in Neutral. If your 4 wheel drive doesn't have Neutral, that may be the issue.

You may be able to use a tow dolly. Consult with your Ford dealer to see it this works.

I have a '15 ford Escape AWD - I used a tow dolly just fine in April. Now after having two (front tires) replaced, there is a shuttering noise coming from the back. The shop is suspicious of something from my tow in April, yet I was also told I could just get two tires and be fine. Two days after tires were on, the shuttering began. I'm suspicious that there was no issue until now after getting two tires. They also told me I would normally be sold four tires, but they were trying to "help me out".
