I'd have to say false. Check your owners manual on that one.

Look at all the complaints involving the MKX and MKZ and dead batteries, Ford had admitted there was a rash of bad OEM batteries and had even issued a TSB about it, although I thought that was sorted out before your model year. It seems like your dealer is making that suggestion hoping to keep some computer module from activating when the car is off and draining the battery. Go through your owner's manual and see if there is anything in there like the dealer's suggestion, if not then they gave you a BS excuse.

Interesting, our 2014 MKZ has had no issues, but the wife has her foot on the brake when she shifts it to park and shuts it off. I'd say false and ask who at the dealership told you this? I would also ask them to show you in the owner's manual where it says this must be done. I would be more inclined to believe this if the service department told me this rather than the salesperson. Have you had an issue with the battery?

My 2018 MKX battery wouldn't start and I've only had my car for a few weeks. I'm calling the dealership tomorrow. I'm going to be furious if it happens again. btw, nothing was left on that would train the battery.

2016 did this to me last night. Barely turned over but did not start. Flashing headlights and cranked like old cars did when battery goes dead. Hot in and out of car. Pushed park, start, park etc. Sat awhile and tried again. Something reset itself like booting up a computer. Finally got home. Ugh

This happened to me - my 2009 MKX battery died, Ive only had this car for 27 days!. I was so mad.. the dealer said its the cold (MN weather), but I haven't even had the car for that long! I had a friend jump it and the battery wouldn't charge nor turn over. I am hoping that replacing the battery fixes the issue. Also might I add the hood sometimes doesn't latch close - apparently I have to carry the WD-40 with me when that happens... and the chrome rims - well the tires leak air and the dealer knew then when they sold it to me... be sure to get the warranty on a older car... UGH...

2016 MKX started about 3 mos ago,(Jan 2019), car dead as a hammer. Wasted no time on a Sunday. Sam's Club open and had the premium replacement. Installed and warranted in half hour. 3 weeks pass, dead again!! Never a sign of low battery just lights out dead car when you need it in the morning seemingly random. Mad at car and I was a mechanic and electronics tech at progressive times on my life professionally, so I sat in the garage trying to solve what was draining the power to no avail. Gave up and went in house turning off the lights in the garage, closed door and hung "Smart fob" on its hook and remembered I forgot something in the garage. Opened the door to the dark garage and the Welcome Lighting was on..... odd? Just left 2 seconds before then..... the "once on and then time delay before operating again" should have prevented this. But then the problem showed, as the time out and the lights dimmed to almost off, lights back on and repeated the on cycle again and again. Bandaid for the problem was to put both fobs on the far end of the house. Still have to bring it to the dealer to argue about which of the cars eleven computers is responsible for the time latch failure. C. Workmon Colorado

This so true I never new about this until my MKZ started giving me slow starts...I read this and it solved my problem, looks like something stayed on when I shut off my car from now on I will be pressing the each time i turn my car...Thanks for posting this...

My 2018 mkz’s Battery randomly dies overnight. This has happened several times and the dealer so far has been unable to find the problem. They have replaced the battery but that didn’t help. ;(

I had this issue and was in my third battery (replaced under warranty) I have a 2018 3.0T AWD with only 15,000 miles. (2 year lease up in Jan). Turns out after the dealership had the car for 2 days, the computer needs to be replaced. This was causing my battery issues it seems along with others.

The battery in all new Lincoln's has to be reset with a professional scan tool. The tablet kind. Otherwise the vehicle's computer or ECM will overcharge the battery and your vehicle's battery will go dead. Especially, on hybrids.

That is any time you replace or disconnect the vehicle's battery or the vehicle's battery goes dead and you get it jumped. ECM or vehicle's computer has to be reset with a professional scan tool.

No Michelin tires; lost 4 rear wipers in car wash (I now travel with duct tape, and sometimes forget to remove it.....nice...must be Ford's top of the line...new Lincoln with duct tape standard); they tell me my (third) battery drains because I have Sirius; Oh,did I mention it backfires? Born and raised in Dearborn and was proud of Ford, but it's over.

I have a 2017 MKZ with 56,000K and I have had 3 batteries replaced under warranty, Service spokesman says I just don't drive it enough. First vehicle in sixty years where the battery was an issue. My driving habits haven't changed.

I have a 2016 Black Label MKX with the 2.7 and AWD. Purchased June 2016. It is on it's 3rd battery (2 replaced under warranty) and this weekend it I got the "system shut off to save battery" message and the tones changed to the generic Ford tones rather than the Lincoln tones. The latest battery was installed two months ago when the vehicle was dead in the garage. This weekend I noticed something that leads me to suspect there is a bad module or other part. I replaced the batteries in one of the Fobs and went out to test it (the Fob is not working). I opened the door and closed it and waited for all the lights to turn off, which they did, but the Start button was pulsating, and did for several minutes with the door closed. I waited for at least 5 minutes and it continued to pulsate (or flash). Nothing else was on that would indicate it was in accessory mode. Got in, and pushed it as if I was taking it out of that mode and the button stopped pulsating. I had made an appointment for maintenance and detailing for next Monday, but now am considering calling and speaking with the Manager. When the car was there for the battery replacement in late Spring, I questioned the Advisor about why this would be happening, and asked him if they had tested the system. His response was vague. The vehicle only has 24K miles. I love this vehicle in terms of the overall experience, but am very unhappy with this electrical issue. Once I get it in for service I will come back and post if I have anything I can report that may help someone else.

After I posted about my 2016 MKX on Monday, I went out to use it and it was dead. I called for Lincoln's roadside assistance to come and jump it and then called my dealer who arranged for me to bring it in and have a loaner available. The diagnosis was the control module for the liftgate. The Advisor explained that it is supposed to go into sleep mode after the vehicle is shutdown, but mine was staying in standby mode which was draining the battery. When I took it in on Monday he told me they have a fair amount of MKX's in with electrical issues so they would be checking several things. They replaced it so time will tell. Other than this my SUV has been quite reliable and I have enjoyed it tremendously. We drove it from the East Coast to the Southwest when we relocated here November 2017, loaded up and with our dog in the back, and it was a great trip.

As I write this (Thursday Aug 20), my 2016 MKX has been at the Lincoln dealer since last Friday. I went to use it that Friday and it was dead in the garage. The local dealer sent out a guy to bring me a loaner and who had a jump box, and he took the MKX back to the dealer. After calling several times and inquiring, I am being told that they can only find that the new battery they installed two-three weeks ago had a bad cell. All the draw tests show that the vehicle's electrical components are operating correctly and nothing is wrong otherwise. I am supposed to pick it up later today. So this means I have had 4 batteries in 4 years (the original battery and 3 new replacements from the Lincoln dealer). As a lifelong Lincoln lover, pretty disillusioned.

After reading all the post above about there Lincoln MKX having a dead battery continually I’ve discovered something odd with our New 2017 Lincoln MKX we just bought August 4,2020. It also had a dead battery this past weekend with no signs of weakness previously. Had it towed to the Lincoln dealer to have it looked at. Dealer installed a New Battery in the car and said it was ok now.. We drove it home parked in the Garage and noticed after we came inside the Welcome lights kept going on/off repeatedly every 10-15 seconds. Moved the fob keys further away but issue still continued. I discovered the lighting on/off issue “ONLY” happens when the car is locked with side mirrors folded inward! When we left the car unlocked it didn’t happen oddly! I found a review that said to “shut off welcoming/approach lighting” in dash settings to see if it stops and it worked! So far we can lock the car now & haven’t noticed the lighting issue. I do “NOT” know yet what’s causing this issue to drain the battery only when the welcome/approach lighting is on in settings and the car is locked with the fob key button. I will report what we discovered to Lincoln and hope this issue can be resolved since we just bought this car... any information would be appreciated. Thanks

In reference to my above comment on our 2017 Lincoln MKX Certified preowned that we just purchased Aug4,2020. We are confident that the approach/welcoming lights must be what’s causing the car to go dead as it recently happened. Nothing else appears to be on except these lights continually coming on/off every few seconds only while in Locked mode which obviously everyone needs to be able to lock there car so this issue needs to be addressed by Lincoln ASAP!

BlueJeans63, you need to have the dealer do the draw test they performed on mine. They connect the vehicle to a unit that will show if something is drawing current while the vehicle has been shut down. My research revealed that common issues are the memory seats module, the lift gate module and the remote start. I am actually on mu 5th battery in 4 years, but since I picked up the vehicle a few weeks it seems to be ok.

I just put the 3rd battery into a 2015 MKX with 63000 miles. The dealership ran their computer diagnostic and found nothing that should be draining my batteries. ???? Anyone?

I had a battery replaced after only 7 months on 2017 MKZ. The dealer rep said I need to drive it more to keep the battery alive. The present battery has been in 14 months, Because of Kovid restrictions I haven't driven enough for an oil change. and we have had a couple of months of colder weather. Me thinks that they just had some lousy batteries.

On my third battey with my 2016 MKZ. I am reading about modules not going to sleep. There is a way to turn off the automatic trunk closing module.

I last had my MKX in for the electrical issue 6 months ago. Drove the vehicle from Texas to the East Coast and back in December without an issue. Today I get into the vehicle to use it and the dreaded generic Ford tones rather than the Lincoln tones are there, which is the first sign of problems. Just opened and closed the driver's door without touching any controls and after shutting the door the start/stop button is continuing to flash. That is the second sign of impending power failure. Since I have had all of the modules changed and there have been 5 batteries changed, I am wondering if the dealer is going to have to do it all over again.

Wanted to share that my MKX has been at my local Lincoln dealer after it was DOA after I posted the previous comment. My advisor shared with me that Ford FINALLY released a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) that addresses this specific issue. It includes a reprogramming that is supposed to solve the draws of various components after the vehicle is turned off. Hopefully a year from now I will be able to return here and share that all is good.. Time will tell.

I feel like I am keeping a journal here but I am posting here in case my experience helps someone else. My BL MKX is already back to the dealer. Three things alerted me to an impending battery drain: the tones keep reverting to the Ford versus Lincoln tones; then I realized even though I have the DRL activated they are not coming on and third, this morning when I started the MKX I got the "System Shut Down to save battery" message on the nav screen. My local dealer immediate sent me a loaner Lincoln and picked mine up. According to my paperwork from when the suv was in last week, they were able to find a draw-again-and performed a TSB that has a software update. When I get the vehicle back I will post here with any information I have.

Had the same issue which is extremely frustrating and dangerous when you are located in an area with freezing temperatures. Once I unplugged the power trunk/liftgate module the car stopped dying overnight and hasnt had a problem since. The only problem is I cannot open the trunk with any of the buttons until I get to the dealer and PAY them to fix the problem THEY created. They can reflash the module or they might have to replace the module if its not responding.
