Mazda CX5 2016 navigation issue

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had read all the information listed here about it being the sd card. Last
January I had taken my CX5 in because I was experiencing these issues with
the freezing in cold weather, they did a update and that didn't work. I took it
back again, this time they replaced the system. So I am now having the issues
again with my navigation. I just went over my 36000 miles and they said bring
it in we will look at it. I took it in and now they want me to pay 399.00 to have it
fixed. I said why am I paying for a known issue this isn't a new issue still same
one as before. Mazda came out with the fix in Feb...one month after my
replaced gps was installed. I was told since I had 36600 miles it is out of
warranty and that I would need to contact Mazda, which I did while I was at
dealer and they said it would take a few days and would get back to me. They
called today and said they would take 250 off the 399 to fix it. Am I wrong is
wanting them to fix the problem for free? I realize I am out of warranty by 600
miles but is an issue that I had reported prior to that and was not fixed properly
at that time. Mazda said since it isn't a recall issue they were not responsible
for letting me know a fix was available to my problem.

I would complain directly to Mazda. I bet you can get a good will repair.

I did go directly to Mazda and they were the ones who offered to pay 250 of the 399. They said they were doing it in good faith since my warrenty having expired.

My dealership said it would be $1,200 to replace my system which completely stopped working (dropped the satellites first ,then just went to the splash screen a couple of days later). I am at 50k miles and out of warranty. Can't believe a perfectly fine system would just stop working that quick. I have a Hyundai Santa Fe with almost 200k miles on it, never did an update and it's still working like a champ. Should have stuck with the Hyundai....Not happy with this car (which now has no radio, nav, blue tooth phone and the back up camera is starting to drop).

My issue with the navigation system is regardless of the address I input, it will not "navigate" to the destination. It remains as if I'm stationary. I attempted an update on the card several months ago with no change. Dealer service said the card is corrupt and requires replacement for $399. I've asked for an explanation detailing what is involved in the card replacement - for example, re-programming? I've not received a response. I plan to restore the backup I made of the card prior to the update and see if I can try the update again. I have the EasyCare plan that should cover repairs to the navigation system up to 60,000 miles.

My Mazda CX5 can not start Navigation system. Instead, it just show a compass. It is just slightly over 20k miles! Any suggestion?

I have the same problem, started yesterday, rang garage today and said they had not heard of the problem before. Waiting for phone call back from them.

I resolved my issue by doing what a few others had done - remove the negative battery cable, wait a few seconds and restore it. Reset the Nav system and everything was back to normal.

Disconnected the negative on the battery, then reconnected but still didn’t work. Then found where the sd card slot is, ( inside the central front armrest compartment) looked and the sd card had popped out. Reinserted and all working fine.

I had mine just quit today. It worked this morning and then just stopped saying on screen" YOUR MAZDA IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH A NAVIGATION SYSTEM", and showing a compass on the screen I discovered the GPS SD card was corrupt. Did a restore of the backup and things work fine. If you never made a backup using MAZDA CONNECT, then you may have to purchase another GPS SD card. They are around $50 to $60 . Seems like this happens more than it should (Maybe a bad batch of SD cards).

I'm having problems similar to all the above. First started happening in Las Vegas with the temps at 110F. Found that if I hung my hat over it to shield the sun and put the ac vent blowing upwards. Worked!

I had the same issue with my 2016 CX5..for months. I dreaded taking it to the dealer for a fix. But I saw one site and someone turned me on the the Mazda tool box. So I thought I’d try it. I downloaded the app and it was free. I went through the steps. I then got to the down load map…here’s where the hit comes. It was $84 for the updated map. I was hesitant but thought it was cheaper than all the other fixes I’ve seen. So I bought it. It took about an hour to download. Well..I was shocked when I put the SD card back in started the engine and I’ll be damned ….IT WORKED! Four or five months I’ve been agonizing over this damn thing. If it didn’t work I was just going to leave the SD card out so I had access to everything else..radio, phone, maintenance. Hope this helps.
