Tire replacement on AWD ford edge
We are looking next year to sell our 2003 Ford Explorer and purchase a used Ford Edge.
Issue.... we have friends who have AWD and they have been forced to replace all four tires when only one needs replaced.
I am not a robot...
That's right, the tires all need to match, so if they can't find a used tire that has the same manufacture and thread depth they are either stuck with buying a complete new set of tires or buying one new tire of the same manufacture, and have it shaved down too match the other three in tread depth, this really sucks big time but that's what happens with any AWD vehicle. Now if you do put on just one new tire and drive it that way it will ruin the transfercase and then you aren't going anywhere. So my way of thinking is stay away from AWD vehicles.
If you were to ruin a tire one of the same brand and similar tread depth can sometimes be found on ebay or craigslist. Been there and done that with our Infiniti AWD.
transfer case damage will result if you don't use all the same tires tread pattern and tread depth
