Is the base 3.5L V6 the same Engine as the 3.5 L Ecoboost without the Turbocharger?

The base engine would be fine, but if you are looking to do some towing I would prefer the 5.0 or the 3.5 Ecoboost. I currently lease a 2013 F-150 4x4 Lariat Super crew with the Ecoboost 3.5 and haven't had any issues with it in 40,000 miles. The fuel mileage is not great, but it is a damned nice truck.

The 3.5 ecoboost is a DOHC twin turbo direct injection V-6 engine. The standard 3.5 is very similar to the 3.7 it replaced it does NOT have direct injection or turbos, however it is a DOHC V-6.

The 2015 F-150 has an aluminum body and therefore is about 900 lbs lighter than the previous model year. The standard engine should do fine. But before you decide I suggest you check the net on body and fender repairs for an aluminum body. I believe consumer reports posted a video on the exact same truck. Took a sledge hammer and dented the side bed panel near the rear wheel. Good whack but not something horrific. Cost of repair was over 4G's. Something to think about. Then talk to someone or check out what it cost to repair a bad turbocharger. It also is not cheap. ---- My two cents.

The aluminum body will catch on and in a few years they will all be aluminum. I will be getting a new Ford soon as my lease runs out, but this time I will get the 5.0 engine. The aluminum body is a plus, it's light, strong and won't rust away.

Never dreamed I would submit an article on a truck. I just bought the 3.5 n/e. I do pull a light weight trailer And it is rated at 7100 lbs. As a 72 year old man I lost my need to be lead footed and burn rubber. The truck is so quite and rides so much better Than my big ram 1500. So far I like the truck and hope to get many miles of service out of it. I could Have bought the 2.7 EcoBoost but my feeling is the more technology you’ve got the bigger the potential Repair bill. 2018 Ford F-150 XTL v6 24 v DOHC how much hp ?

The non turbo 3.5 v6 is rated at 283 hp. My 2016 F150 reg cab short bed 4x4 has good mid range and top end power. I wouldn’t try to tow too much though. Mileage isn’t great. I have never gotten more than 26 mpg highway and around town get around 15. Knowing that , it is a good basic no frills engine.

The 3.5 L engine is very powerful. It is found in the Taurus Police Interceptor. It is very responsive and FAST..! I love the power and way the engines runs. Not great on gas but very good motor.

Any engine that has a turbo runs under more pressure and thus is more susceptible to failure and wear in the long term. So, if you intend on keeping it for years into the future, just be aware of this and plan for possible repairs.

where is the water pump located on this engine

I second what Guru9D5XD1 inquired about. On the regular 3.5L engine, the water pump is mounted internally and driven by the timing chain. The water pump itself costs only about $40-50, but it's a major job that requires a lot of labor time, and turns it into a $2,000 job. But wait... there's more! That $2,000 job is if you catch the bad water pump in time. If you ignore it and the pump totally goes out, it can create a cascading, catastrophic problem; hence, the class-action lawsuit. i have 2014 ford turbo flex the engine is bad i also another 2014 flex that is non turbo can i cha the turbo to the good motor and what ever else and use it?
