my 2001 ford escort dome light won't work when you open the doors, but does work when you turn the switch to on on the light housing

the little switch where the doors open-close is bad or unpluged.

Most likely the switch at the door is corroded and making a bad connection,try wiggling on the door switch and see if the interior light comes on. If not than the wire might be broken.

try wd40 spray on the spring that turns the light on it just might be stuck
