I have a 2001 Ford Escape V6 2WD. Can you tell me if I need to drain the oil before I change the oil sending unit

No. No need. On 6 cylinder engines: Sending unit is located near the oil filter housing behind the air conditioning compressor, on the front side of the block

is replacing the oil sending unit as easy as unscrewing it and screwing the new one in? are there any tests that need to be done afterwards?
