Is Buick going to do anything to resolve the awful braking noise on their new Encores?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My wife loves her new Buick Encore - all except the awful braking noise that won't go away...  our local dealership repaired it once, then said that Buick won't let them repair it again because they're supposedly working on a resolution.  It's now been a year since then, and no resolution from Buick.  My wife is starting a job as a realtor, and for obvious reasons doesn't want to bring any clients in her car with the awful braking noise (for fear they'll think there's something really wrong).  Does anyone know if Buick is actually going to do anything about the noise?

I agree. Even though it's a new car, a 2015, brakes will only be covered by "defects in materials or workmanship" and they will put that burden on you and weasel out of it. Sad but true.

Thanks! Unfortunately, it's not a pad & rotor issue. Buick knows that the "dampeners" they designed to reduce noise & vibration during braking are causing the problem. Our dealership has replaced these said "dampeners" once already, and Buick now won't let the dealer replace them again (at least not under the warranty), because it's only a short-term fix to the problem... Sounds like we just need to get on Buick's case to resolve it. Thanks for your input!

I also have the "fog horn" when I push on my brakes in my 2015 Encore. Last month when I received my "Happy One Year Anniversary" email, I sent a scathing one back about the brake issue. Apparently my Encore came from the factory with the kit on it, so apparently that didn't work. I will say Buick has been responsive regarding contacting me by email and phone several times, but yet no real answers.

I am leasing a Encore that has 2700 miles after 6 months, and since the first month I've encountered the loud grinding noises when braking, gets worse in rain or fog, on top of that I also have problems steering the car, it seems that when making turns on colder days or rainy days the power steering seems not enabled. When on a rough road, I feel every bump in the road, and the noises that come with them, I do not feel like I am driving a new car, but instead a 7 year old car. When the brakes catch, which happen often, it jerks your head forward. I do not feel safe driving this car anymore, I thought it was a new car breaking in, but after seeing these posts I see it is a mfg defect. I am very lucky that I did not purchase this car and instead have a 2 year lease, which, I feel is too long to have this car with these problems. Time to make some noise for ourselves.

We have a 2014 Encore and the "fog horn" brake noise is very accurate. First time buick replaced a brake booster but it didnt solve the issue. Next time in they said the rotors were pitted and they sanded them down. That didnt solve it either. Planning to go in a third time. Also, the radio cuts out intermittently usually in warm weather. Any ideas there? They did a software update and it seemed to go away but now that its warming up again, the cutting out has returned.

We have also encountered the same brake noises since purchase 2 years ago. Parts have been replaced to no avail. Last week I told the service manager I want my money back or the vehicle replaced. I asked for a conference calll with him and his supervisor. Not really expecting any satisfaction. Began looking for a replacement last Friday, and will trade in the Encore. Buick boycott has begun just like the Starbucks that supported Lying Hillary and threatens to fill 10,000 jobs with refugees instead of veterans. My replacement will be American made.

I actually got my Encore fixed about a month ago. The finally got the replacement part manufactured and my Dealership received it and installed. Brakes work perfectly and have been "foghorn" noise free since!! I would encourage you to contact your Dealership or Buick customer service to get your Encore repaired.

I have a 2015 Encore that has the grinding brakes. Worse times are when it is rainy or snowy or damp outside. had brakes and rotors replaced last week. The noise is still there. We have been told the noise is nothing it is the brakes cleaning themselves. We lease this vehicle and feel like we are stuck with it until our lease is up in 2018. Not happy.

I'm not exactly sure what the part is. I had really great Customer Service from Buick and they are the ones that sent the part to my dealership. Maybe you should start there. I was in email contact with them.

Same problem with my 2015 Encore. Here I am April 2017 same problem. I'm done. There should be a way we expose this to the public. No more Encores!

My 2015 Encore had the same noise. Buick dealership said they are replacing back brakes, not because they were bad, they say they have a new update which should fix the problem. I pick the car up tomorrow. Also, my lift gate started making a horrible noise when ever I open it. It actually jerks to the side and sounds like something is stuck. Buick actually told me that they checked this on an Encore on their lot and it does the same thing and that it is normal. It is not normal, it did not do it for the first six months that I owned it and then it started intermittently, then it started every time I would lift the back door. So I will continue to pursue this issue.

I have a grinding noise as well in my Buick Lucerne left front, for 2 years plus. All rotors and pads were replaced and new bearings in the left front. Finally diagnosed as backing plate scraping on the inside of the rotor. Three mechanics "fixed" it free by bending the back plate but it did not fix it. Seems to me since both are non moving parts that they would scrape all the time. Any ideas anyone

I leased a Buick Encore ( which wasn't the Vehicle I wanted but was "bated and "switched") by the salesman. I test drove a Terrain and that's what I thought I was getting but after the all day process and evening time I realized I had the Encore. I'm thinking " it's brand new, no big deal" WRONG!!! I had to take the car back the next day and have been taking it back many times and still having problems. I even got a ticket for running a stop sign which I didn't do on purpose. I wish I had checked this web site before I went to court to fight the ticket. The so called hearing officer looked at me like I was crazy but now I know I was right when I assumed that what they were giving all of us was a " Prototype" I constantly take this vehicle to the dealership and even after replacing almost everything it still runs LOUSY!! Is anyone else having the problem with the Vehicle "DRIFTING BACKWARDS at any given time? Not just on inclines and hills. I say call 1-800-LEMONLAW. I did

Bought my 2014 encore new 2/12 years ago. foghorn noise from the start. went to Buick shop 4 times, no resolve. after 25,000 miles struts are shot. waited 3 weeks for Salem Buick dealer to replace. when I called they said maybe 2 more months. also back seatbelt will release. for you who want to know how to remedy this problem as I did sell Buick and buy Hyundai. (of course I lost my ass) . either GM is so naïve that they have lost my business forever or maybe they don't care. SELL YOUR BUICK WHILE YOU CAN !!!!

GM has apparently known about this problem since at least 2014. They have continued selling the Encore with this known defect. I have a 2016 Buick Encore that I bought brand new in the summer of 2016. When winter 2016 arrived, I noticed that when it got cold the brakes would make a very loud scraping noise the first three or four times they were applied. I complained about it to the dealer when I took it in for an oil change. They told me that they were aware of the problem and were expecting to receive parts necessary to fix the problem and would call when they had them. They called, and I took the car in for the repair. It seemed to reduce the problem by 90% so I was 90% satisfied. Summer 2017 arrived and with warm weather I soon forgot about the problem. With the arrival of winter 2017 the problem came back with a vengeance and the noise is even louder and now it happens the first six or eight times the brakes are used. I took the car into the dealer last week for another oil change and told them the problem was back. I said that "my wife said she HATES that car and we will never buy another one like it". The service manager just laughed said they are receiving a lot of complaints about the problem on that model car, but that GM is now saying that it is a "NORMAL NOISE"!!!!!! I have probably purchased 8 or 10 new GM cars in my life but if this is the way GM treats legitimate customer complaints, we are finished with them! Goodbye GM, it was nice knowing you.

Can anyone who had this issue please contact me at ted_wimberley@yahoo.com . I'm taking my case to a lemon law arbitration hearing and would love to share your experiences during the hearing.

I have a 2015 Emcore which I purchased new. My only complaint is that the brakes are too sensitive and grab. They are worse when wet or when the air is damp.

I finally found the solution to the "foghorn" brake noise. After the dealer told me that GM says it is a "NORMAL NOISE", I switched from being a long time GM owner to a new Ford Edge owner. We LOVE our new Ford Edge!!

I too have had problems with my Buick but I have only noticed the problem when I am backing up but I am usually on a hill. When I back up, the noise is not always there so the dealer and other shops have not been able to tell me what the problem is. The noise is so loud that it has scares me. I don't know if it is my breaks or what the problem is. I have decided since seeing these posts to talk to the GM service manager about my concerns. My car is going back to the dealer tomorrow so hopefully they hear and find the problem.

Has anybody actually been able to fix the problem? I love my encore but this is just ridiculous and not right for GM to be screwing around their loyal customers

After GM refused and denied my lemon claim, I fixed it myself with disc brake quiet for less than $10. https://www.amazon.com/CRC-Disc- Brake-Quiet-05016/dp/B000CINV88

I have a new Buick Enclave Aviner and it has had squeaky brakes from day one. It took months to get the dealer "crippen in Lansing, Michigan" to try and repair. They said they replaced the new brakes and they continue to squeak loudly. This is my fourth Enclave and I a, very disappointed that Buick has not developed a repair. Why don't they try something new besides doing more of the same? Very frustrating !

Has anybody got the new 2019 encore and have hesitation at take off every now and then kinda like a skipping in trans and a loud knocking noise in the motor can hear it louder when windows is rolled up and you're sitting in the cab of the encore sounds as if the motor has knock done this since day one dealer ship says there is nothing wrong saying it's all normal

I have a 2017 envision. I complained about the squeaking prior to it going out of warranty. The service agent at the dealership told me Buick is aware of the problem. There is no fix. Now, it squeaks so loud that when I’m driving 40 mph, I can hear the squeak from inside the vehicle. I took it in again regarding the squeak and oil change. The new service agent told me there was some type of debris between pad and the rotor. It was cleaned off. I drove home and it’s still doing it! How can I get this fixed?

I just bout a used certified pre-owned 2018 Encore in May. It had 12,300 miles on it. Six months and 4000 miles later I took it to the dealer because it shimmied so bad when I would brake. They said the rotors were warped in back and something else was wrong with the brakes up front. Long story short they wanted 679.97 to fix the issues. I have been driving cars for 34 years and have never heard of rotors warping after 4000 miles or even at 16,000 miles! I think there was an issue with the vehicle when I purchased it and they knew they would make money down the line. My greatest concern is that this will continue to be an issue moving forward. I am a teacher and I can not afford to keep dropping almost 700 dollars into a car every 4000 miles.
