2001 escape trasmission

Ok here one 01 escape 210000 miles runs well for the most part trans
started acting up on a trip to ohio would not engage except when cold
changed out the fluid which was black think slug couldnt do the filter
because its internal and drove it drives fine shift well while cold but once
get super warm will not engage in any gear i have dealt with trans failure
b4 and never have i lost all gears at once nor having it work occasionally...
temp light comes on but engine temp gauge shows normal range and has
plenty of fluid so any ideas what to try next

If you got 210,000 miles on the trans and with black fluid you are really lucky. Time for a new one. Next time take care of it.
