1997 GMC K1500 suburban. car ran out of gas and wouldnt start after putting gas. changed the fuel pump still wont start. is there a reset?

tow truck driver hit a telephone pole with the back end of my car. i heard that
if the car thinks it was in an accident it will shut the fuel line down. i put gas in
to the distributor and it started but it wont start without doing that.

Whoa. We need to start over. Put gas in distributor.. something is a miscommunication here. But for beginners, ask the tow company what they are willing/able to do. They caused the problem... maybe. But running out of gas in the first place can and will burn up fuel pump

Besides, the 1997 GMC has no inertia or fuel shut off system. That was implemented by Ford in the '90's and later by Toyota. Somebody told you wrong. The '97 GMC has no such feature
