Sirius radio reception

Asked by GuruSXK8 Apr 17, 2017 at 07:40 PM about the 2015 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My reception on Sirrus radio stations will cut out for a second (most times
less then a minute apart).  When it does, 3 seconds later it cuts out again
for a second. Then within a minute it does it again.  I have had it in the
shop three times without success.  The fourth time the radio was replaced
with a new one.  SAME PROBLEM.  Regular AM and FM there is no
problem.
Could it be a short in the antenna.  Please, ever heard of this before and
can you help!

Where do you live, in between mountains, low areas will affect reception

No I live in the middle of Illinois and there isn't anything that should be a problem. The 3 second thing must have some meaning

I have the same problem, but it seems to be connected to my bluetooth. It only happens when my phone is connected to the car and only with SiriusXM not FM Radio.

Having the same problem with mine. Only the signal goes out sometimes up to a minute, comes back for a second or two and back out again. I've had SiriusXM a year and a half with no issues. This just started in the past month. I take the same route every day - one day it was working fine the next day is hardly worked. Sirius has refreshed the signal so many times and nothing. The Sirius tech guys say it's the car and to take the car back to the dealership. Called dealership and at first they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about but of course would be willing to look at it for a fee (no longer under warranty). GPS, bluetooth, regular radio works with no issues.

My 2017 Altima had no problems with reception. My 2019 XM goes out all the time. I think it’s antenna issue. Taking to dealership tomorrow. Will update afterwards.

My 2019 Altima has the same problem. I have XM radio on 2 other cars and drive same roads with no problems on the other cars.

I ended up taking my Altima to the shop to have the satellite/antenna replaced and reprogrammed.

Yes it did. There was also some kind of update that needed to be applied as well.

My 2019 Altima is having the same problems. They applied the software update but that didn't fix it. Currently waiting for the antenna part to arrive at the dealership and then to take it back in for the antenna replacement. Sounds like they are on the right track.

My 2019 Murano cuts out excessively..the dealership replaced the antenna..no change. We took out another new 2019 Murano and it cut out. Now being told it is normal..NO WAY! My 2015 Murano never cut out..my 2015 was still on the lot for sale..we took it out and as I said no loss of signal at all!! Is the new radio in the 2019 lesser quality? It is different from the 2015..I am scratching my head!! I am an audiophile..must have music driving and like it loud..this cutting out is really pisding me off!!

After 5 calls to XM radio with no luck I took my car to the Nissan dealer. They said they need to replace the radio unit and it's on back order and they have no estimated date for a new radio.

My 2019 Murano has been in the shop for 15 days now! Their last resort I'd to replace the radio..however we test drove another 2019 same model from the lot and it cut out also. Someone else on here said they had their radio replaced..$8000 job and afterwards he still had the problem! I believe the new radios in the 2019 are not as receptive as in my previous 2015. They did some changes to the 2019 radio also. It is not identical to the 2015. I am so aggravated.. it is looking like I will be getting my car back and will be told that is the way it works now and have to live with it. I am an audiophile and must have music when I drive and I like it loud..this cutting out is outrageously annoying..I wish I would have kept my 2015 Murano! I think I will start calling Nissan Canada to seek some help..nothing to lose by trying.

I'm having same issues with my 2019 Altima, taking it into dealer soon to replace as I drove a different car the same route today with zero cutouts so it's obviously a faulty antenna. Any ideas on how much this'll cost me? The car is now 13 months old with 26k miles so I'm guessing out of warranty.

Nissan has 3 year warranty..a new antenna should cost you nothing. They replaced my antanae on my 2019 Murano..did not fix the problem. I truly believe Nissan changed the entire center console and it is screwed up. It seems to be an epidemic on 2019 models! They shown own up, find a fix and do a recall!

Dealership emailed me to say that the replacement antenna had arrived so I called to schedule bringing it in, the service advisor told me they had another 2019 Altima in the shop with the same SiriusXM issues and a Nissan rep was on site and they were trouble shooting the issue. Still waiting to hear from them about any resolution and what they are going to do. Will update as more info comes in.

They replaced my whole antenna..did not fix the problem. I still swear the upgraded console unit is faulty somehow..not as sensitive to the signal. Some have mentioned getting the $8000 tuner replaced and still have the problem. I wish they could take the one out of my 2015 Murano and put it in my 2019..

My 2015 Nissan Rogue started cutting in and out about 2 months ago. Called XM no trouble shooting worked. Sounds like a Nissan issue.

Nissan replaced my radio in 2019 Altima yesterday. Did not fix the problem. I'm taking it back to service today.

They said they need to contact Nissan Corporate to find out what they need to do to fix the problem. They kept my car and gave me a loaner. I'll update this thread when I get more information

Do not replace the antenna..does not fix it. Head office Nissan Canada just sends your complaint back to your dealership to handle. They want nothing to do with the customer? I think it is a faulty component in the new radio console itself. My 2019 Murano was at the shop for 2 weeks. I am learning to live with it until Nissan does a recall to fix the problem.

My wife has a 2019 Murano with no XM radio problems. I currently have a loaner car 2019 Rogue with no XM radio problems. This is only affecting my 2019 Altima.

Received phone call from dealership today. They received direction from Nissan Corporate to replace the antenna. They are ordering and replacing antenna and I should have my car back on Wednesday.

Replacing the antenna will not fix the problem. I really think a recall for defective xm radio recivers on 2019 models

Nissan replaced my antenna and it fixed my problem. I have driven back and forth to work 3 times now with no issues. The service rep told me that this is a National issue.

Waited for dealership to get the Nissan recommended antenna replacement. Took car in last week. A few hours later, the XM radio works like a charm now.

I have a 2015 Nissan Murano and the XM has worked perfect until this week. No signal, no sound. Have been on the phone with Sirius multiple times. They finally told me today I need to take to dealership. Of course my bumper to bumper is out. I bought an extended warranty but I have no idea if it will be covered. I can't pay a bunch of money to enjoy XM. I may just have to cancel. So disappointing.

I just purchased the Nissan Kicks. The radio was cutting out a lot, so I called Sirius/Xm several times but sending a refresh done nothing. I later discovered it's not all stations, but mostly my favorite stations. The blend (ch 16) is terrible, as well has channel 2 (#1 hits). Channel 58 (Prime Country) works like it should, as well as some others. I spoke to the dealer and they claim they haven't had any complaints. I haven't went back there yet because I live 2 1/2 hours away. These radios are "Sirius/Xm" radios, as opposed to my previous Kia Soul radio, that was a "Sirius" radio. That one worked fine! Could it be that some channels bounce off the Sirius satellite, while others bounce off the XM satellite?

Tony. I am having same issue. Some stations work totally fine and others not at all. Always the same ones. It shows what is supposed to be playing but there is not sound. I had a case with XM escalated and spoke with them again yesterday and they told me had no idea what would cause that and that they hadn't heard of it. Suggested trying to factory reset the radio (which I thought might make sense because it worked totally fine the first 2 months I had it) and if that did not work take it to the dealer.

I am having a similar problem with my 2019 Altima. I bought it Dec 2019 and it had the problem from day 1. I didn't notice it during test drive but maybe didn't have the Sirius radio on long enough to see it? It cuts out frequently. It is unlistenable. In December I went thru 2 detailed tech sessions with Sirius and they couldn't get rid of problem, told me to take it to dealership. First time into dealership they said they couldn't find a problem running their radio tests. I came back a month later with videos showing the problem. They said they would replace the radio and did and it's still the same. I have been having a feeling that they don't want to deal with it because it's difficult. I have been laying back because of COVID but I am on a new crusade to get it fixed. I would like them at least to admit there is a problem. They have said they drove the car and it worked ok but I don't believe them. I have a service appointment this thursday 8/27. If they say it works ok I am going to demand someone rides with me in the car to observe. The dealership is under new management and I am hoping they will work with me to fix the problem. The very first time I brought it in I got a story about how difficult Sirius radios are they are affected by sun spots, etc. If all Sirius radios worked this way Sirius would be out of business. and clearly they are in a lot of cars. If many 2019 Nissans have this problem I wish they would just tell me and own up to it.

They replaced the antenna in my 2019 Altima on 8/27 and that seems to have fixed the problem. I'm so happy that it's working ok now!!! They did say that there was a tech tip of some kind suggesting that fix and if that didn't work there was another fix to re-route the Sirius antenna wire. The new antenna worked All this makes sense to me. The problem seemed like it was related to interference or noise. It took quite a while but I'm glad it's fixed

I’m having the same issue with my 2019 Altima. Sirius XM is constantly going out. I bought to Nissan and they ran tests, said nothing is wrong. Took is back again this morning for the same issue, hopefully they are able to fix it. Will update soon.

I think this is a Nissan issue with the antenna. I'm having the same issue again. Funny none of the other vehicles we own have had issues with their antenna/Sirius. Only the Nissan. Seems to crop up ever 1-2 years.

My wife's 2016 Rogue goes in and out in certain areas for 10 - 15 sec. My 2017 Rogue Sport is fine in the same areas. is the upgrade that might be necessary?

Having the same issue with 2016 Altima but it’s reg FM radio... any thoughts?

Hi, I drive a Altima Platinum 2019. For the first year, the Sirius radio was working fine. But now, I have some stations that goe's blank on me while driving. I suspect the antenna because I noticed that the direction I'm driving has an influence on those blanks. I'm in Quebec Canada, and everything is normal as long as I drive SW.... Turning either directions makes the problem come to life almost instantly. Have you observed the same?

I heard the antenna is in the back window? I bought a 2019 Altima and the XM has NO SGNAL. I called Sirius many, many times. They eventually told me to take it to the dealership for repairs on the antennal / radio. The dealership wants a $160 diagnostic fee and go from there. Also the volume knob doesn't work properly. This is the worst radio I ever had...ever! I have music loaded on my phone. I'll use that and the FM. Not pumping another $1,000 into this car. Had I known I wouldn' have bought this year car.

I own an Altima Platinum Ed. One 2019 2,5 L. I had the same problem including the volume of the radio issue. I ended up having the dealer change the antenna and "reprogramming" the radio. It solved both problems. Prior to that, I noticed that the Sirius signal was on and off depending on the car orientation (e.g. I mean that I had signal losses driving towards north, and good reception driving facing south notably. I live in northern east Canada.) That's what triggered the idea that my antenna was defective. Hope this helped.
