Slip indicator and check engine light on

Asked by Cesar Jul 02, 2017 at 12:58 PM about the 2015 Nissan Altima 2.5 S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2015 Altima. The check engine light amd the slip
indicator lights are on. Car loses power if I try to accelerate.
If accelerated slowly the car reacts fine and will reach
highway speeds. If accelerated fast it feels like it has no
pwer and seems to not ahift into higher gears making it
hard to reach over 40 mph. Any ideas on what it may be the
issue?

This is what my car does. Have you found out the problem yet?

Robert, I had the checkne gine light checked and got code P2004 which is "Tumble Control Valve Stuck Open" need to have it checked to see if its the valve or the sensor.

If you recently had tires replaced check the tire size. My wife's BMW did that every time you made a turn. Turns out that Sam's club mechanic grabbed 1 slightly larger profile tire when we bought new tires. Replaced the tire and it was fixed. Just read the tire sizes on all tires to exclude that as a possibility.

My car has same lights on and accelerated funny when they first came on then it was fine the slip light went off but my code came back as P0100 majority which are electrical or faulty valve issues I’m going to drop my 2015 sentra off to Nissan tomorrow because sad part is when I first bought the vehicle from the dealership only 20,000 miles 6 mos ago the transmission went out the day I drove it off the lot and I was stuck 3 hours from home for 4 days (they didn’t have any Nissan rentals at the time and under warranty the could only let me rent a Nissan) good luck guys.

Having a similar issue now. 12 nissan maxima, slip indicator light comes on sometimes and car will not allow me to accelerate beyond 2500 rpm. I can turn the car off and back on, and the car will be fine for a while at higher speeds. Once i come to a stop, light back on, limited power. While the light in off my car is acting normal, no issues with traction, braking, power..etc. light goes one randomly.... limited power.

My maxima also had the slip indicator light turn. Usually kicks in when an inbalance in the car is detected such as low tire pressure on one side. All I did was fill up my tires with air and the light was off

This may not be the answer for everyone but the issue is probably (might be) the brake switch. I had my brake switch start to fail, my car wouldn't start. I was also getting the slip, vdh, ABS indicator light at the same time. I replaced the switch and my car would start but the slip, vdh, ABS light would come on intermittently. After thinking about it a bit I realized that when you replace the switch you must also adjust the brake switch depth (position) after the installation, which I didn't do. I just installed the switch to the maximum depth. After repositioning the switch am I no longer getting the slip, vdh, ABS indicator light. My advice is if you get these indicator lights replace your brake switch and make sure you adjust the switch position correctly. Even if your car starts BTW it's probably the brake switch. Good Luck!

This is the tumble control valve and will likely require a new manifold.... not cheap... mine did the same thing with the same lights on... we changed the MAF sensor, fuel pump, and a few other things.... nothing worked until we looked into the tumble control valve....

Just fixed an ABS and slip indicator light issue on my sons 2012 Nissan Sentra with a shot of WD-40 to the brake light switch.

So it's 2020. I had this issue and FINALLY got it fixed. Try changing the mass air flow sensor, then resetting the ECM at a dealership. On my 2011 Nissan Altima, the service engine soon light was on and my traction control light would come on and stay on randomly. Got a code reader and it stated my mass flow sensor was the issue. No other codes. Took it to a shop to get the codes read and they said the same thing. I changed the sensor myself and reset thy code. My Service engine light came back on and eventually, the traction control came back on and stayed on too. Took it to a dealership for them to run the codes. The traction light didn't come on while they had it but they said the service engine was a mass flow sensor. They could replace it or just reset the ECM. I told them it's a brand new sensor in there so just reset it. Both lights are now GONE and have not come back! The sensor is like 10-20 bucks online, 40-60 bucks at a parts store, and $300+ at a dealership. I got mine from a parts store and changed it in 10 minutes tops. Overall, the issue would have cost me under 200 altogether had I known that's all I needed to do. ($20 sensor + $125 ECM reset at the dealership) Hopefully this helps

I’m having the same issue with both lights Coming on. I have replaced 3 mass airflow sensor‘s and it happens again within a couple of months and today they both came on and started giving me the same trouble. I don’t want to replace the manifold but if that would make this issue stop, I will. Any advice?

Not a Nissan, but my Toyota is doing the same thing. One of the four O2 sensors was reading bad (downstream sensor). Replaced it and was good for a minute. I’ve read that the catalytic converter could be going bad which causes bad air readings on the sensors - which relays that info to your Engine Control Module (ECM) - which makes adjustments to your performance thus causing the sluggish acceleration - and also costs you a couple MPG in efficiency. I’m not excited to have this issue at 75,000 miles, nor am I looking forward to shelling out the dough for the catalytic converters or wrestling with another O2 sensor, so I’m going to check it with a more involved Scanner and see if anything else pops up. In the mean time, resetting your ECM is super easy... just disconnect your battery terminals and turn the key to the “on” position for about 10 minutes and then reconnect. You’ll lose your stereo presets, but any new codes will be active and not some code stored somewhere in the computer, popping up for no reason. Btw, Toyota has a bad track record with catalytic converters... something else I learned today. Good luck to all of you! My heart hurts a little reading each of the posts. Seriously.

I unplugged my mass airflow sensor to clean it and forgot to plug it back up and had the same issues you guys were talking about… Went away as soon as I plugged it back in.
