1972 Pontiac Lemans cranks but no start condition

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, I have a 1972 pontiac lemans 400ci 4bbl. The
problem is a crank but no start condition. I have
replaced the starter/main wire, HEI distributor w/
coil, battery, alternator, fuel pump was replaced by
the previous owner but it works fine, also installed
a new fuel tank/sending unit, checked the fuel
filter, and I'm sure there's more. I am thinking it
may be either a wiring or timing issue, but that's
just speculation. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Spray some starter fluid in the carb and see if it hits. If it does not pull a plug and see if you have fire ground it out on the block.

Check for spark - they make a really cheap tool (costs about 3 bucks and it's called a "HEI spark tester") that you install on the end of a plug wire and will light up when receives voltage when cranking. I know you replaced the distributor, but you should confirm you have spark.
