1989 GMC SUBURBAN transmission fluid

Asked by Jesse Jan 02, 2016 at 05:35 PM about the 1989 GMC Suburban V2500 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just inherited an 89 GMC Suburban. It is a 4×4
with an automatic transmission. It apparently has
little to no transmission fluid in it. What kind of
automatic transmission fluid do I use ? How much
do I need?

Dexron III-H/Mercon Source: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/search/Automatic+Transmission+Fluid+-+Vehicle+Specific/04196/C0207.oap?year=1989&make=GMC&model=V2500%2BSuburban Now, add 1/2 quart with engine running in Park until you see fluid, then 1/4 quart at a time it is to line on dipstick, I could not find total capacity
