Battery loosing a charge is not always a bad alternator . You could have a voltage draw draining your battery. When you remove the alternator also take the battery in with you to have it tested and fully charged while you have the alternator tested. Both must be good to not screw up the internal voltage regulator inside the alternator. If the good battery is drawing down and the alternator is good do a draw test to find the circuit causing the draw. .
