How do I lodge a complaint about a dealer that made a deal , took a credit card & then an hour later stating that they decided to pull the deal & ship the car to a different dealer in hopes of getting more money. .?
After going back & forth a little with a very nice sales mgr. we agreed on the
price listed , she took my credit card & I was left to check on a trucking
company to haul to my home . ( I'm 69 & didn't want to make the long drive.) I
received a call about an hour later ( after closing hrs. ) & was told that the
general mgr. decided to pull the deal ( car ) & ship it to another dealer in
hopes of getting more money .( more than what was listed on the site , of
which we had finally agreed upon ) What are my options ? Very unethical !
If you had a signed agreement it is LEGALLY binding. Remind the manager that you will Sue if he does not hold up his end of the deal.
Even a verbal agreement is binding but harder to enforce. You could sue but it will be your word against a weasel's word.
Can l trade my car in for down payment
Ask the dealer about down payments and trade ins.
First thing I'd do is call the credit card company and report the incident! Have them close your current account and reopen the account under a new account number! They can do that for you right over the phone. Then, if you have a signed agreement of sale I'd call the local police department. An agreement of sale is a legal and binding contract! Then tomorrow, Monday, I'd call your local Office of Consumer Affairs and file a complaint! HTH. -Jim

Thank you . This all took place over the weekend , by phone . The dealer is Auto Nation Chevrolet in Corpus Christi , Taxas . The Gen. Mgr.'s name is Austin Bitner . ( He wouldn't talk to me ! ) My inclination is to contact the Attorney Generals office , the local media & all the sites that this auto was listed on . I was hoping "CarGurus" might speak on my behalf as this is a fraudulent representation of their site ! - Thanks
Since this is a Chevrolet Dealer you can also contact Chevrolet Customer Service at 1-(800)-222-1020. You can open a case with them against the dealer. They'll investigate it. I've had issues with my local Chevrolet Dealer over the years, mostly concerning warranty work, that they hate doing. While the results haven't always been to my liking they always contact the dealer and shake them up a bit. After the last episode with them about 10 years ago I stopped doing business with them altogether and take every opportunity to bad mouth them. I never lie about what happened, I just tell the truth. Social media is excellent in that regard. Facebook, twitter, etc. is an excellent tool for this! Remember, good or bad, word of mouth is your best or worst advertisement!! HTH. -Jim
