Won't come out of 1 gear

The catalyistic converter was cut out of van after
replacing the van won't come out of 1st gear

The exhaust and transmission are not related. But make sure all the wires and sensors still go to the trans if you removed the exhaust? Maybe you yanked on a wire or two.
