2014 Fiat Pop Tailgate Latch Cover

Asked by Jul 26, 2019 at 09:38 AM about the 2014 FIAT 500e FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

At dealership getting quote. Back latch cover
came off. Hatchback still opens.
Dealership is telling me that the entire hatch
unit needs replaced!!! The hatch still opens,
not sure why the entire licking unit needs
replaced. I’ve not gotten quote but is this
something I can do myself?

Fiat has had problems with this latch; the insides are cheap plastic. If you're handy with mechanics, you could buy a replacement and install it yourself. There's no need to see a dealer about this; a body shop probably wouldn't charge more than $200 for this.
