Tires for F-150

Asked by GuruW7NGS May 30, 2018 at 09:01 PM about the 2014 Ford F-150 FX2 SuperCab

Question type: General

My F-150 came with  P275/65 R18 tires on it. I have a chance to buy four
P265/65 R 18 tires at a great deal. Does anyone know what effect this could have on my truck. I tow a camper and wonder if it might sway more with the smaller tires.

I work at a tire shop. That's not going to make that much of a difference. You'll actually get better mileage.

provided the load rating is the same, it will make virtually zero difference on your truck. that number (265) is the width of the tire measured in millimeters, so your new tires will be 10 millimeters (about 3/8th of an inch) narrower. the next number (65) is the aspect ratio. simply put, it means 65% of the first number. 18 is your wheel diameter. if you work out the math your new tire will be about 3/8th of inch narrower and about half an inch shorter. this means your new tire will revolve about 10 more times for each mile you drive. although this will make your engine RPM at highway speed higher and thus use more fuel.....the difference wont be enough to notice. on the bright side, it will give you an equal amount of extra torque at the ground....but again, not enough to notice.
