Annoying rattle in the right rear passenger side

Asked by Jun 14, 2018 at 10:25 PM about the 2014 Ford F-150 XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2014 Ford F-150 XLT bought used with 90,000 miles. There is an
annoying rattle coming from the right rear passenger side. I have tried to
track it down but so far no luck. It sounds like plastic but I cannot be sure.it
can happen at any speed but when you get to around 50 or 60 it is constant.
Love the truck, hate the rattle. I do know that one of the plastic panels in that
area has a broken clip. Could that be what I am hearing?

Check the rear seat belts. I never use the rear seats in my F 150. I began having a rattle. I tucked the belts down behind the seat and found out the metal portion of the seat belt was rattling against a metal seat support.

You can also check the scissor jack and lug wrench packet which attaches under the rear seat.

Hi, OJ, Thanks for your help. The scissor jack is behind the driver's seat, not on the right side. There is nothing under the right rear seat but metal. The noise-rattle-appears to be coming from the right rear corner. It sounds like plastic but cannot be totally sure

I have a 2017 F350 with a similar issue and learned the noise was coming from the passenger seat. There is a 5 x 1 x 1 inch rectangular heavy steal block that is attached by 4 rubber mounting tabs in the frame of the seat back just beneath the head rest to counteract some of the vibration in the seat. Those mounting tabs on my truck had broken and that weight was loose in the seat back and as the seat vibrated it rattled. I unzipped the seat back cover and was able to reach in the back of my seat and remove the weight. I'm checking with Ford to see if there is an updated part. Otherwise, I don't think I'll replace it because I have to talked with too other owners and they have the same problem.

I thought it was coming from the rear passenger area until one day I reached over and put my hand and applied pressure to the seat back of the front passenger seat and the noise stopped.
