Question type: Maintenance & Repair

if i grab axle spindle with wheel bearings removed i can pull it out and push it
back in by an inch . replacing bearings and bearing retainer because on both
sides bearings wore into retainer for some reason . need to figure out why the
bearings did this ( seal fail or what ) just wandering if axle is problem

I would not drive again until it is fixed as that is a dangerous situation. Your truck is old and things wore out. Maybe no one changed the gear oil or it was low on oil.
