2014 Chevy Malibu hesitates to start

Asked by Caroline Jun 22, 2017 at 03:57 PM about the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu 1LT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2014 Chevy Malibu. A few months ago I had this same problem, the
car acts like it is not going to start. Last time it did this it eventual wouldn't start.
I replaced the battery and all seemed to be good until now!! I am now back to
having the same issue before battery replacement. Any thought on what it
might be?

Bad Battery terminals & terminal wires or failing alternator or Starter/solenoid. Bad grounds maybe even those from engine to frame or from battery, Loose connections ect.

Also look at the battery terminal wires (inside/under insulation) or battery post and see if you have corrosion. Check for tight connections to starter. Make sure all electrical connection to alternator and battery and starter are tight.

Can you describe the problem better ? does it crank (turn over ) when you hit the key ? cranks slow , ? First thing in the morning ? after being driven ? It all helps . Any anti theft ?

I am also having this problem. 2014 Malibu turbo. Hesitates upon starting at not particular time or reasoning. The anti theft lights will come on, 2 keys are programmed will come on. Just a bunch of random stuff. Super weird.

It’s not the battery! I believe it has something to do with the start assist system that they put in these cars to be “eco friendly” check the battery in the trunk. Should be a small one that looks like a motorcycle battery. I believe the system starts to fail and then it affects the rest of the car. I’m going through this issue as we speak, luckily I’m anmechanic and I’m diagnosing it as we speak
