tachometer

when engine is on and idle the tachometer is at 1 and not at 0.  what does this
mean

thank you. but before my engine in idle would start from 0 then progress to 1 and so forth as i pushed the accelerator

Pushing the accelerator makes the engine run faster. A tachometer is a "speedometer" for the engine, it tells you how fast the engine is turning, not how fast the car is going.
