Speed Sensor

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2014 Charger and she is my baby. I made
the mistake of taking her to Wal-Mart for an oil
change and tire rotation. It had to be done before
we went out of town and they were a last resort.
Anyhow half way thru the trip, driving on the
interstate, my cruise control stop working and I got
two lights on my dashboard. When turning to the
left sharply there is a ticking coming from my gear
shifter. I think they messed up my speed sensor
while rotating my tires. Is this a problem anyone
has had? And is it easy to replace or fix? Like can I
do it myself? Help me please.

It is very possible that they did nothing to cause the issues. I would however check all the lug nuts to make sure they are tight as a loose lug nut could cause a ticking sound.

What lights came on? -Jim

The traction control and ABS lights.

With those lights on the cruise control will be disabled. My guess is that they somehow unplugged one of the wheel speed sensors for the ABS (Anti-lock Brake System). This will activate both lights since the two systems work together. Check the wiring at the speed sensors. HTH. -Jim

This happened to me randomly. You just need to get a new speed sensor from the dealer. They are fairly cheap. I doubt it was walmart though.

My daughter and I both own Chargers. The ABS and stability control lights came on both vehicles about one month apart. My Monthly Vehicle health report says we need to have the systems serviced. I am wondering if this is a flaw in the build of these models...
