I have a 2014 Corolla S, and the display screen is working but when I touch it registers about a half inch above where I push. Is there a way to calibrate or fix this?

Asked by kskip333 Nov 16, 2016 at 08:48 PM about the 2014 Toyota Corolla S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I cannot push the buttons on the bottom of the screen at all because of the
difference in where I touch and where it registers. Is there any way to remedy
this without total replacement? Everything else about the display screen is
working fine.

I reached out to corporate started a ticket and then made an appointment at my dealership per corporates instruction. The dealership looked at my vehicle and advised me the only thing they could do would be to replace the radio. My car is a 2014 and has 44000 miles on it currently .. corporate refused to help me with the radio payment. The dealership told me they could install the brand new radio which would have been $800 itself along with $125 payment for installation. I still have the same radio that was ridiculous and I told the Toyota service desk that I would not buy another Toyota because they do not stand behind their products. Apparently my car had a 36000 mile warranty I did not know about which covered the radio if I had known this issue would have been rectified a lot sooner. For now I will just have to deal with it

I had the same problem on 2014 Corolla S. The dealer charged me $ 77.86 for a software update, but the problem persisted. My car had only 23,000 miles but the dealer told me the warranty was for only 36 months and a replacement of the display would cost me $1,000. I feel robbed.

I have the same issue with my Camry 2014 and a half. I thought it would be somewhat Cowboy calibration as well so I will have to take a look at that website the other person posted.https://youtu.be/CCMDlh5o7wE and see if this can help me I was told minimum mom if they could swap it out would be $1,600 and to replace the whole thing would be $4,000. I have 86000 miles on my car but this started about a year ago when I had 74000 miles on it

Use a credit card or something like that to reach the buttons on the bottom of the screen. It is not a permanent fix but it might work for you as well.

My 2014 Corolla S Toyota radio is not working as well for two weeks already. I’ve asked Toyota to Explain to me because I don’t understand why??? I’ve never heard such an absurd situation. What is Toyota doing about this. BECAUSE TOYOTA IS DEFINITELY AWARE OF THIS RADIO UNITS GOING OUT WITHIN 4 YEARS OF USAGE. They need to make this a recall or something because this is going to be televised. Toyota you integrity is on the line it’s your choice!!! The consumers needs to be informed about this.

Man I was hoping I would read that there was hope for me. I’ve had my corolla SE for a few years and it only has 60,000 miles on it now... I’m having the same issue. Bottom part of my touch screen works only when it wants to. For the price of these vehicles.. you’d think things like this would be a simple fix and covered by the manufacturer

I have 81,000 miles on my 2014 Corolla LE+, and the bottom of my touchscreen has also stopped being responsive. Part of it was not responsive, but I was still able to press buttons with my finger nail or a credit card. Now, it's not working at all at the bottom. It would not be a huge problem for me, if I I didn't just get a new phone that I want to pair with it. I've owned Toyotas before, and I would say that I am slightly dissappointed with mine. I leased it new and then bought it out after the lease. During the warranty period, my brakes were warped and had to be replaced and also my fuel tank hose had a crack in it and the entire fuel tank and hose had to be replaced. Luckily all covered under warranty. I also believe my motor mount is loose, since I get a lot of vibrating when I first accelerate or try to hit the gas pedal to pass. I think that since 2014 was a new model year, that there were some issues that happened with the build. Hopefully those have improved over time. I feel like at the cost of trying to look good, Toyota cut some corners on this vehicle, which is sad because other Toyotas I've owned have had hardly any problems. Luckily, I would say at least nothing major has gone wrong yet...unlike in the Fords my company has as fleet vehicles. Those repair costs for items like the airbag monitoring system and AC condenser cleaning were very costly.

I have a 2014 Corolla with the same problem the touch screen has become splougy unresponsive in several areas. Had a real hard time pairing a new phone the add button is unresponsive using your finger and any kind of pointing device anywhere on the screen and around the add touch button, however I finally added a new phone this time, I was able to use the corner of a credit card and was able to get the add button to populate to the next screen by sliding a credit card corner below the bezel at the bottom of the add button. Unfortunately I think it will only get worst in time. This really is one of Toyota’s engineering untested oversights they will need to take responsibility for. Hopefully it will not take a court order to move them.

I have the same problem and was considering just re-ordering another system online. Lo and behold the only option is from ebay for "used" ones but how do I know it isn't just another defective part as this seems to be a widespread issue?

If Toyota is asking that much for a replacement I'll start looking at Crutchfield for a better replacement.

Same problem on bottom and also left side of screen on 2014 Corolla S. Also sun roof never worked correctly, I bought the car with 7 K and dealer would not repair even though under warranty. Mother company would not help, they said they defer to dealer. Dealer was in Lia Toyota in Northampton MA Toyota. WORST EVER! Sunroof would cost over 2K to fix. No thanks. No more Toyotas for me.

I have called Toyota and told them about this issue. Corporate called me and left a message today and I’m going to see what my options are. The screen is defected and doing the same thing as other users.. bottom half of the screen does not register when touched. I’m hoping they do a recall but we all need to call Toyota and get in touch with the corporate office.

$100 part from Amazon. 6.1inch touch screen digitizer. Plenty of YouTube videos show how to replace it. Minimal tools. I could talk anyone thru it on a video call for a small fee.

If you guys dont get through the blue tooth mode even you use a credit card, if you press the call button from the car, it can bypass the bluetooth mode and connect your phone. Once you get into bypass stage, you can use your phone to connect your car :/

Thank you for the option but it did not work. I pressed the phone symbol and it went to Bluetooth setup. I did not get to the bypass stage

Hi everyone. Just an update of my ToyotaEntune Issues n with the useless Toyota dealer itself. I got rid of that car. (2014 Corolla S....Toyota is no longer my headache. Same issue on my toyota camry 2014. It is on the right side of the screen not the bottom. I only have 25k miles on my car as well. Clearly this is an issue Toyota needs to address. Having a replacement put in because my warranty was not up yet but it was a fight to get them to do it. Dont get me wrong Toyota's are great vehicles but they need to get to the bottom of their radio issues and do something for everyone. Come on Toyota you definitely have the money!

hi. you can tackle this problem with an easy DIY fix. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qpMtsujPX4&t=706s

If your problem is connecting ***just 1 phone*** via Bluetooth and you can't because the lower right corner is not responsive then the solution is super simple: first remove all phones registered then hit the call button (toyota camry, not sure it works on corolla) it will automatically get you to the pairing page. This only works if there are no other phones registered

Try holding down in the center of the volume button for a few seconds, it should reset the whole thing. When our screen calibration was off, this is what worked for us. We couldn't believe it was that simple.

For anyone else having this issue, a 6.5 inch digitizer for the head unit absolutely fixes the issue. I bought my 15 corolla which had sat in the heat of texas and california and the screen was on its way out. It finally got dangerous because I couldn't shut the screen off at night. $16-$20 for the digitizer and a little elbow grease will fix the problem

10

Plenty of replacement digitizer screens on EBay and Amazon, average low price about $25. Enough videos on YouTube to get the DIYfers started. It is a moderately complex job, so if you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself, find someone who can. Be sure to get the exact screen replacement for your model radio!

I have recently experienced this same problem our local Toyota dealer Musson PATOUT wants 1200.00 dollars for a refurbished radio and saying a new one cost 7688.00 dollars I didn’t ask for an update I contacted Toyota Corporation no help there either I have 67000 miles on my car has anyone else get this problem resolved

3 people found this helpful.

Omg! I found a video on YouTube. The screen extends below the casing. Stick a cc in and try to hit the add button. The calibration is just off, so everything is about 1/2inch down. I was able to add a phone! Thank god. I can not afford 800 for a new screen and the install from best buy.

80

HEY GUYS! If this is happening the "calibration" will continue to get worse until the credit card trick doesn't work. I know everyone seems to think that you have to replace the display screen or the entire radio, but you don't - the only thing you have to replace is the digitizer (the bit that makes the touch screen touch sensitive) and it's a $20-50 part on eBay and 30-40 minutes of your time. Just be careful with dealing with the ribbons - they are fragile. This video is the best I've found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qpMtsujPX4&t=69s

Have a 2014 Toyota where the the radio seems to be loading and nothing happens the screen just goes blank. Toyota knows full well they sold lemon on these radio’s and their response...”stick it to their customers and make it their problem”. Disgusting and slimy to say the least.

2015 Corolla S also unresponsive touch screen. I've complained to Toyota, but nothing helps. Did Toyota help anyone?

10

Like Mitzi posted, you just need to replace the digitizer. It's a pain the butt to replace but not hard, just annoying. All you really need to do is unscrew some screws, detach some cables, then put it all back together. If you can assemble a table, you can do this. You just need to spend around $25 and 1 hour of labor.
