How to get my truck started

Asked by Emanuel2149 Feb 23, 2020 at 05:41 PM about the 2014 Cadillac SRX FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2014SRX had a bad smell I changed the
filters it did not fix the problem. I seen some
smoke coming from the Battery and noticed
the smell was coming from it as well. I tried to
change the battery but it did not work so I put
my old battery in and gave it a jump but now
the jump will not start the car . What is the
problem? What can I do?

Sounds like the battery is being overcharged. The smell, kinda like rotten eggs, is hydrogen gas and is flammable! When a battery is overcharged the electrolyte inside (acid) boils and the hydrogen gas is forced out through the battery vents. Most likely it's the alternator. Have the charging system checked and repaired. Hope that helps! Jim
