USB port in Ford Fusion

Asked by rcs244 May 23, 2018 at 08:43 PM about the 2014 Ford Fusion Titanium

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I’ve had a 2014 Ford Fusion for about 6 months
now. I’ve used the USB port to plug my phone in
and charge/listen to music without a problem.
However, I just went on a road trip and my dad
used the port to charge his phone while using his
GPS and it didn’t charge. I thought it was just
because he was using GPS that it wasn’t working,
but now my phone won’t charge properly when I’m
not even using it and it used to before. Could it be
the battery or a fuse? Weird that it worked fine
before and now I’m having trouble.

APIM Module, my Fusion has been at dealer for over a month waiting for the part to come in. I used to work as a body shop mgr. for a Ford Body shop. I've located several as their parts department must either have no knowledge or just lazy. I'm beyond disgusted.

Have you tried resetting the system? Hold the search and power button until the Ford logo appears. It was the trick on my 2016 Fusion.

The next track button and the power button on the volume knob. Had the same problem and tried this and worked perfectly

Thank you for the tip about resetting the system by pressing the radio power button and the radio forward search button simultaneously till the Ford logo re-appears. I have a 2018 Fusion SE

It's the APIM module and/or USB hub. I have a similar problem. My dealer explained that the hub max's out at 15W, whereas many new phones require more (25-45). My Note 20 Ultra worked fine for months, then all of sudden Android Auto stopped working because the hub burned out (I have a 2017 Fusion). They're waiting back from Ford on an answer. I'm wondering if there's a 3rd Party hub available that can handle the phone.

Thank you for the info on how to reset by holding down the power button and the next track button. It worked. I have a 2018 fusion. The Ford logo didn’t come up but icons left of the clock display came up. I had to do it a couple times until the icons went away and the usb started working.

I held down my power button (the volume changer) and the skip track button for 10 seconds. CarPlay came back on, along with the USB ports working again! :)

Amazing! How do you find out things like that? I have a 2018 Fusion Energi. It worked like a charm! I was very impressed! Power button and next track pressed for about 5-10 seconds. Thank you! Now, anyone knows a way to get rid of the tire pressure light on the dash for the winter? My rims do not have sensors. Good job everyone!!!

If this bug has been in the FUSIONS this long, you would think if they couldn't fix it; they would hire someone who could? Or put in a 30W apim module or perhaps a 100W? Why you ask? BECAUSE, I have 2x iPhones, I have a USB powered GTAB, I have camera's to record accidents, I have power hungry hf radio's! There are 100's of other gadgets that need power from these ports! Mine for instance, may or not be powered....then while driving I hit a bump and the power jumps to 6v....eventually after jumping all over it finally goes to 13.4v provided I don't have anything plugged in!!! So Answer me: why don't ford put in an apim module that is rated at 100W?
