Asked by Spirit_942 Dec 16, 2015 at 09:10 PM about the 2003 Ford Windstar LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I Have no output to the harness to front windshield
washer pump , wipers working fine an have
triggered the pumps with 12 supply an works w/o
restrictions , iv replaced the multifunction switch
and have output there as well , what's between the
pump an switch is there a separate relay for the
pumps themselves and or could the problem be
the module ( FEM )  any help would be greatly
appreciated  :)

bjb fuse 6 30 amp gives constant power to the front washer pump, if there isnt power to the washer pump connector suspect the fuse or the wire as its a mostly straight shot from the bjb. the fem gives it the ground via multifunction switch input. the dark green wire to the motor has a splice in it that ties into the wiper motor and wiper hi/lo relay. the motor closes a normally open switch that is fed by the fem. the other side of that split energizes the hi/lo relay. it also ends at the fem. the wiper can still work but disable the washer. if the fem is junk then it can do the same.

OK Guy , is it possible to hard wire the pump from the multifunction switch bypassing the FEM module completely?

Not as such, the only way i see is to replace the ground side that goes from the washer motor to the fem with a momentary switched ground somewhere you decide. The fem connector is located in the dr left kick panel so it wouldn't be difficult to tap into the existing harness to trick it.

Yes, just not as the washer itself. that would have to be a separate button.

Curious if I could use a relay on the output of the multifunction switch which is the input for the FEM an just dead end the output to the pump still using the push button switch off the multifunction switch just bypass the FEM

The pump has power when key is on. the fem is its ground. This is as straight forward as it gets. The fem uses the multi switch input to know to close the ground for the pump. This isn't one of those things that can support any additional load on the switches that are already there. Think of the fem as a non servicable relay controll module.
