2005 police interceptor Drive suddenly started to slip All gears reverse is fine.

Asked by Steve Jan 22, 2018 at 11:35 PM about the 2005 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2005 police interceptor 70,000 Miles runs or ran perfect. Suddenly forward started to slip. Fluid level perfect maintained by govt dept No metallic looking stuff in fluid. Should I drop the pan and inspect ?? or just plan on a rebuild. Sounds like it may just be a simple fix due to how suddenly it went out and what low miles are on it. BUT Im not the expert. THANK YOU !!
Sorry forgot to say forward works kinda when cold but quickly disappears when it warms up.

I'm not a transmission expert but from your description it sounds like you need a transmission overhaul. How does the dipstick smell??? burnt? What color is it? red or dark. Good luck
